Animated desktop background á la DreamScene

Hi all.

Do you like The Matrix? If so, try this in the terminal:

Code:
gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop false

Code:
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/glmatrix -root

Now you will have a nice animated matrix backdrop. Do not know if it is permanent yet (think not), will return to you.

The downside, however, is that you now cannot use the desktop in any way like rightclicking on it or having stuff on the desktop.

Take care,
lord.

EDIT:

To get the desktop back, type this in the terminal and log out and then in again:

Code:
gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop true

And note that you can costumize this with any screensaver, not just the matrix one (what it does it that it changes so Nautilus does not render the backdrop, and then you make so a screensaver does that instead, in this case it is a matrix one) Wink.

Darkness, you haunt me. If I give in, I would be an monster beyond imagining. Light, you guide me. Thanks to you, I see past the nothingness. Life, I choose to live in the light.

Neat. I saw a guy who had an animated matrix desktop in a Compiz demo video on youtube and I was wondering how he did it.

Yeah, it looks to me like you're in need of a RAM upgrade. What's your 5th OS? You only have 4 listed.
